OK, I’m man enough to admit it: Carolyn Arends brought tears to my eyes. I defy even the most hardened cynic to listen to WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU and not be moved in some way.
– Jeff Dewsbury

  • Features the Love Sponge Strings on “Come Anyway”, “Be God’s” and “We’ve Been Waiting for You”

Not Just for New Parents (Old Ones Like It, Too)

We were on our way up to BC for family camp a couple summers ago and all of a sudden "The Thought of You" came up on iPod shuffle. I had not listened to that song in years (since my daughter was so very wee) and it surprised me by being a total jam. I had forgotten that this ain't your grandma's lullaby album! This is for parents who are all about rocking out to all the aspects of new and blooming parenthood - and, speaking as the parent of a teen, it is lovely to revisit and remember that the thought of your kiddo has always kept you awake - though sometimes for less cheerful reasons than when she was a little snap pea in the belly.

So many highlights on this album, but I'll just list 2 more: "Your Father in Heaven" is one of those songs that makes you gasp with the power punch of the lyrics behind the pleasing and highly listenable music. It perfectly encapsulates the longing of a parent's heart for her child's growing relationship with God. And, for a rollick of a cover, do listen to Carolyn's take on "Like a Natural Woman." Adds depth to Carole King's lyrics when they're framed by motherhood.
